Building Homes for Heroes is a national non-profit, non-partisan organization. Since 2006 it has been at the lead of making a significant difference in the lives of wounded American service members and their families. BHH builds or modifies homes, and gifts them, mortgage-free, to veterans and their families. These homes help to remove the family’s financial burden, but most importantly they help to restore the individual’s freedom and enable the veteran to lead a more independent and productive civilian life.

Above and Beyond Property Improvement has had the opportunity to work with Building Homes for Heroes. Back in 2018 we were contacted by BHH regarding a property belonging to Matt Stoltz, a veteran with some physical complications who was having trouble particularly with the bathroom: it was difficult for him to access. According to Michelle, Matt’s wife, he uses the shower sometimes to sit in there and try to relieve the pain and nausea caused by migraines. The shower was a corner unit, extremely small for Matt to use with a shower stool or chair, meaning he had to sit on the floor. “It worked but, the dream of having a shower with a bench that he could comfortably sit for relief was always pushed to the back burner due to the cost and/or physical requirements to get the job done.”, says Michelle. That is when BHH came along, and so did Above and Beyond Property Improvement.

Dan, our VP of Projects and Operations visited the property and spoke to the homeowners paying special attention to their needs. Above and Beyond tailored a project suitable to the family’s specific wishes and worked hard on it. The result was great: Not only does Matt has a comfortable space to sit on a bench where the water can hit him directly and help relieve the pain from migraines, but a full bathroom remodeling was carried out. We, Above and Beyond, really enjoyed working with this family and BHH. But expressly we were delighted to know that we contributed to make the Soltz’s lives better by facilitating the use of something as basic and important as the bathroom. We are very pleased.

“We are beyond grateful for this opportunity that has changed our lives and positively impacted Matt’s healthcare. Working with Building Homes for Heroes and Above and Beyond Property Improvement was a great process. From the initial visit during our contractor selection all the way through completion, we felt that the team listened to our needs and wishes, clarifying at any point to reduce confusion. We felt that the team worked well with us and BHH bringing us to the result of a beautifully remodeled bathroom of our dreams.” – Michelle Stoltz.
Above and Beyond keeps a relationship with Building Homes for Heroes and we look forward to collaborating with them in the wonderful labor they do.
