We strongly believe that our most important asset is people. To start the year, we have an interview with Jacob, our Restoration Senior Project Manager. We did a short interview with him because we want our community to know who visits their properties and get to know him better.
Hello my name is Jacob Mercer
Do you have a nickname?
I don’t have any nicknames that people frequently use but there have been occasions where people would call me Rocco, only because that is my middle name.
Tell us a little bit about yourself. What do you enjoy doing?
As unbelievable as It may sound I do enjoy my job, well at least most of the time. During the rare times, I am not working, I’m either spending time with my family, airbrushing, or shooting pool.
What do you do in Above & Beyond?
It just depends on the week, I predominately inspect properties for moisture issues or secondary issues caused by moisture that has gone unseen for too long. I create estimates for repairs to properties that have already had mitigation or remediation performed. Then oversee the jobs through to completion.
What experience do you have in this area?
I started as A field Technician about 12 years ago at a restoration company my uncle owned, from there I have been with several different companies learning new things along the way. I have been to IICRC classes for water, fire, smoke, and mold restoration. Over the years I have worked in almost every position within a restoration company. I have been a technician, estimator, remediator, project manager, and consultant. I have been trained in thermography, moisture migration, leak detection, and containment setup.
In 2018 I took classes to become a Florida state Mold remediator and Mold Assessor. I passed both exams and in 2020 decided to finally pay the license fee and receive my remediators license. The original plan was to start my own company but ended up finding a great company to work for along the way.
What is your approach with clients?
Instead of a sales standpoint or just telling clients what they want to hear I believe in honesty, even when it’s something bad and a client may not want to hear.
Why is it so?
At the end of the day I know I am giving them the most accurate information I can so that they have everything they need to make the right decisions. I rarely meet clients on good days typically when I am meeting someone for the first time it is because there is something wrong and they need help. I don’t believe in telling people what I think they want to hear just to get a job, clients should be given respect and transparency.
I enjoy the freedom of making the right decisions and not being forced to do things that may be unethical. There are companies I have worked for who will do anything just to get the check and I don’t believe that is the right way to do business. I also enjoy the communication between teams and the overall cooperation that everyone gives to help each other out.
Jacob has been a part of Team A&B since June 2021 leading the Restoration Field Team with a great attitude and care.
